Does Usnavi marry Vanessa? ›

The story returns to the present day, where the beach where Usnavi is telling his story is revealed to be the new shop that he and Vanessa built together, he is revealed to have married Vanessa, and one of the children is revealed to be Usnavi's daughter.

Romantic Interest. Nina is the first person in her family to go to college (Stanford University), and everyone in the barrio admires her as the "one who made it out." However, she returns home from school for the summer to reluctantly tell her parents that she has become overburdened and dropped out.

The bulk of filming was done at the intersection of 175th Street and Audubon Avenue, where STO Domingo Grocery Inc. was used as the exterior of the bodega. The musical number "96,000" was filmed at the Highbridge Pool featuring synchronized swimming and shot over two days with 500 extras.

There's some swearing, but nothing I hadn't heard before when I watched this at 11, and your kid has probably heard most if not all of the cuss words in this musical already. Also the musical numbers are absolutely great, sometimes I just listen to the soundtrack for fun because there are some great songs.

Usnavi's cousin Sonny is having a tough time — turns out he's in love with Nina too — but is comforted that Abuela Claudia and Usnavi plan to give him a third of the money and let him run the bodega.

In the Broadway version it is revealed in "Paciencia y fe" the song right after "96,000" that Claudia won the lottery. Later in "Hundreds of Stories" she says she will give a third of the money to usnavi, a third for herself, and a third for sonny. Yet in the movie it's not revealed until the end that abuela won.

As of now, there are no plans for a follow-up film, but according to Leslie Grace, the star-studded cast has already started a petition for it. "There is nothing that we would want more in the world," Melissa Barrera told Entertainment Tonight.

Is In the Heights a true story? ›

While Miranda drew on some real-life experiences for inspiration, In the Heights and its characters are not based on a true story. Hamilton, by contrast, featured the real-life Founding Father and other prominent figures from U.S. history, but that isn't the case for this musical.

Vanessa finds out that Usnavi has secretly used part of Abuela Claudia's money to help her lease a new apartment out of The Heights. She pleads with him to stay in New York, but he's resolved to leave.

She has a number of designs made up and is looking for a place of her own, but due to having no credit check, she cannot secure the place she is looking for. She goes to the bodega where Usnavi tries to muster up the nerve to ask Vanessa out, only to freeze up.

Overwhelmed by his kind act, Vanessa visits Usnavi as he cleans up the bodega. She flirts with him and offers him a bottle of champagne. She quietly suggests to him that he should stay in the neighborhood, saying that if he leaves, she will never see him again. Usnavi, overwhelmed, firmly decides to leave.
