LPBC Booth at Nederland Fair

7/28 & 7/29/01

The Nederland Fair – what an experience! We were invited at the last minute, so it didn't cost us anything to have our booth there. However, our tent had its last day and fell apart, due to the high winds. So on Sunday, the volunteers had to take turns using an umbrella to shade us from the intense sun.

While there was not a whole lot of activity at this event, in general we were very well received. The proof being the 7 new registrations, 28 quizzes taken, 7 requests for more info, and one T-shirt sold, with a total take of $35.

Well received – except that is, for the crazy lady behing us, who kept coming over to yell at us. I asked her why she was yelling, and that confused her and gave us five seconds of peace. She called Libertarians selfish and said God did not want us there. I begged to differ, but debating with the mad is futile. Her comments were incredibly ignorant, and continually conflicting. Finally, the people in charge of the Fair told her to cool it or leave.

We told ourselves that this is just an example of what can happen if you are left out in the heat too long. And now that our tent is gone, we don't want this happening to our volunteers, so help us get a new tent now!
